Nov. 1 - Joe Biden on Sunday urged Philadelphians to surge to the polls and fight “voter suppression," even as President Donald Trump signaled plans to attack a legitimate vote count expected to extend past Election Day.

“Every day is a new reminder of how high the stakes are, how far the other side will go to try to suppress the turnout, especially here in Philadelphia,” Biden said before about 50 cars filled with supporters at Sharon Baptist Church in the city’s Wynnefield Heights section. “There’s too much on the line to sit it out.”

Later, at FDR Park in South Philadelphia, Biden said, “Every generation has to fight to keep the democracy. I never believed we’d have to fight this hard though.”     continue to read

Biden begins two-day campaign sprint in battleground Pennsylvania

Nov. 11 - Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden on Sunday kicked off a two-day blitz in Pennsylvania, a critical battleground state that both candidates are honing in on in the closing days of the campaign.

Biden delivered a fiery address at a drive-in rally on Sunday evening in Philadelphia, rebuking President Trump and urging voters to turn out for him in large numbers.
“In two days we can put an end to a presidency that has fanned the flames of hate all across this nation,” Biden said, speaking at Franklin Delano Roosevelt Park.

“The truth is, to beat the virus we first gotta beat Donald Trump. He’s the virus,” he said.
Biden also hit Trump over his relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin, calling the president “Putin’s puppy.”

The former vice president kicked off the blitz earlier in the day with a “Souls to the Polls” event with members of Philadelphia’s faith community at Sharon Baptist Church.

“I live in Delaware but I’m a Pennsylvania boy, born in Scranton,” Biden said, speaking in the church parking lot, wearing a Philadelphia Eagles jacket.     continue to read

Oct. 31 - The President gave the first of four rallies in Pennsylvania in Bucks County this afternoon.

He started to attack his rival, election frontrunner Joe Biden - accusing him, without providing any evidence, of backing  trade policies that made "his donors" and "his family" rich.

But he then veered off into just...we're not sure what.

He said: "And as we all know, he profited from the misery of unleashed...work and horror given to Pennsylvania workers.
"He made a lot of money and his family made a lot of money and nobody knew about it until just recently."

It's entirely unclear what he was referring to.

An absentee ballot is a vote cast by someone who is unable or unwilling to attend the official polling station to which the voter is normally allocated. Methods include voting at a different location, postal voting, proxy voting and online voting. Increasing the ease of access to absentee ballots is seen by many as one way to improve voter turnout through convenience voting, though some countries require that a valid reason, such as infirmity or travel, be given before a voter can participate in an absentee ballot. Early voting overlaps with absentee voting. Early voting includes votes cast before the official election day(s), by mail, online or in-person at voting centers which are open for the purpose. US election 2020: When is it, how does it work, and when will we know the results?

Oct. 30 - On Tuesday, November 3, the United States will vote to decide its next president after one of the most chaotic campaigns in history amid social and political unrest across the country.

As the US grapples with the economic and health crisis of the coronavirus pandemic and the looming threat of climate change, voters are choosing between two candidates to steer one of the world's major powers through an increasingly uncertain future.

President Donald Trump, voted in four years ago as the 45th US president, is the candidate for the Republican Party, also known as the Grand Old Party (GOP).

Former Vice President Joe Biden, who served as the 47th US vice president alongside President Barack Obama from 2009 to 2017, is the nominee for the Democratic Party.     more details

On 3 November, Americans will head to the polls and send either Joe Biden or Donald Trump to the White House.
US election 2020: What to look out for on election night

Here's what to watch for as an unpredictable election night unfolds, and the results roll in.
Some key details:

• To become US president, you don't actually need to win the popular vote. Instead, candidates are aiming to win the majority in something called the electoral college (more on that below)
• Millions more Americans are voting by mail than in previous elections. Counting postal votes can take more time, and some states won't start until polling day, so there will almost certainly be delays for some results.
• And because of this unprecedented surge of postal votes, a candidate who takes an early lead may end up being overtaken as postal or in-person votes are tallied. So be wary of the numbers.

Some key terms:

• Bellwether state: Places like Ohio and Missouri where voters have proven reliable at choosing the national winner
• Exit poll: In-person interviews with voters as they leave their polling locations. Only a small number of voters are interviewed, so the exit poll result can turn out to be different to the official count.
• Electoral college: Each state gets a number of electors, roughly in proportion to its population. In most cases, whichever candidate wins a state also wins all that state's electors, who meet later to choose the president and vice president. Because there are 538 electoral college votes, each candidate needs 270 to win. There's a full explanation of the system here.
• Projections v calling: On election night, ballot counts will be used to predict - or project - the likely winner of each state and the nationwide vote. A state will not be "called", however, until enough data has been collected to declare a clear winner. That includes months of polling, exit polls on the day and some of the actual votes counted (more below on that).
• Swing state or battleground state: These states lack a clear party affiliation, meaning they are up for grabs for both Democratic and Republican candidates.
• Red state v blue state: These states tend to vote with a particular party - Republicans in red states and Democrats in blue.

Oct. 29 - The bizarre declaration was made by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy yesterday.
They listed 'ending the Covid-19 pandemic' as one of President Trump's major accomplishments since taking office in 2016 in a new report.

It read: "From the outset of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Administration has taken decisive actions to engage scientists and health professionals in academic, industry, and government to understand, treat and defeat the disease."

But officials on the White House coronavirus taskforce are reportedly upset at the claim - with one telling the Daily Beast it was "mind-boggling".

There’s no world in which anyone can think that [statement] is true," they added.

"Maybe the President. But I don’t see how even he can believe that.

"We have more than 70,000 new cases each day."

At his recent rallies, the President has described the Covid-19 crisis as a "media conspiracy" - claiming TV news exaggerates the risks of the virus in order to deter people from voting.

The pandemic that has upended life across the United States this year, killing more than 227,000 people, is roaring back in the days leading up to Tuesday's contest between Republican Trump and Democratic challenger Joe Biden.     continue to read

White House COVID-19 task force officials reportedly took personal offense to a Trump admin report that lists 'ending the COVID-19 pandemic' as one of Trump's major first term accomplishments

Oct. 28 - White House COVID-19 task force officials were offended by a report from the Trump administration that lists "ending the COVID-19 pandemic" as one of President Donald Trump's first term accomplishments, The Daily Beast reported Tuesday.

The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy sent a press release to reporters outlining Trump's major first term accomplishments. The release highlighted points from a full report, including "ending the COVID-19 pandemic" and "understanding our planet" as some of the president's accomplishments in science and technology.

"From the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Administration has taken decisive actions to engage scientists and health professionals in academia, industry, and government to understand, treat, and defeat the disease," the press release read.

Members of the White House coronavirus task force told The Daily Beast that the report seemed to imply blatant disregard for their work in the ongoing pandemic, as hundreds of thousands of Americans continue to get infected and die from the virus.     continue to read
