June 5 - A Senate impasse over a widely backed bill to designate lynching as a federal hate crime boiled over on Thursday in an emotional debate cast against a backdrop of widespread protests over police treatment of African Americans.
Senator @RandPaul on Anti-Lynching Legislation and his amendment to it: "This bill would cheapen the meaning of lynching by defining it so broadly as to include a minor bruise or abrasion."
