Jacob Blake needs 'a miracle' to walk again after Kenosha police shot him, attorney says

Aug. 26 - (CNN)Jacob Blake, a man shot multiple times by police in Kenosha, Wisconsin, has been paralyzed and his family is hoping for "a miracle," their attorneys said.

"It's going to take a miracle for Jacob Blake Jr. to ever walk again," Benjamin Crump told reporters.
The 29-year-old Black man was undergoing surgery Tuesday afternoon, two days after police shot him at close range as he tried to enter an SUV. In the vehicle were his 3-, 5- and 8-year-old sons, Crump had said.Blake's father described the shooting as a "senseless attempted murder."
"They shot my son seven times ... seven times like he didn't matter, but my son matters," Jacob Blake Sr. said. "He's a human being and he matters."

Blake's suffered multiple injuries, including a gunshot wound to one arm, damage to his kidney, liver and spinal cord, said Patrick Salvi Jr., another family attorney.

"He had a bullet go through some or all of his spinal cord, at least one bullet. He has holes in his stomach. He had to have nearly his entire colon and small intestines removed," Salvi added, saying the family will file a civil lawsuit against the police department over the shooting.     more

Heavily armed civilians have been filmed protecting businesses in Kenosha after arsonists set buildings alight, torching much of the black business district Monday. In footage taken by a local reporter, a small group of men can be seen carrying rifles and wearing combat gear as they protect local shops. They deny they are part of a militia. The Wisconsin city became the nation's latest flashpoint in a summer of racial unrest after the police shooting black man Jacob Blake, 29, in the back Sunday. The shooting occurred three months after the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis sparked nationwide protests against police brutality and racism. One of the armed men in the footage taken Monday night says: 'They're destroying their own neighborhood. It's not the civilians. Go f*** up the government that just killed your man. Don't f*** up your neighbors. 'I'm on your side but you can't burn down your local businesses.' Another adds: 'We’re out here trying to protect residents, we’re trying to protect the innocent people and we’re trying to protect the businesses of the citizens out here.'

“If you really want to drive them crazy, you say ‘12 more years,’” Trump began, as the audience chanted “12 more years!” back at him. “Because we caught them doing some really bad things in 2016. Let’s see what happens.”     more related twitter

The Republican convention may be virtual, but there are real reasons to celebrate four years of Trump

Aug. 25 - ..." In a second Trump term, confrontation with the Chinese Communist Party would sharpen, and possibly increase, as a clear-eyed appraisal of the CCP takes root. Tariffs on our allies that unhinge traditional free-traders should fade, but those ringing China will remain as our Navy’s buildup continues. Our exit from Afghanistan will be completed and our footprint in Iraq reduced. The peace accord between the United Arab Emirates and Israel is the first fruit of Trump’s peace plan for the region; the deal itself was birthed from the regional yawn that followed after Trump moved the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem...

...Trump himself may or may not relax in a second term. The
FBI machinations against Trump — though limited to a handful of actors — and the absurdity of the Mueller investigation and impeachment proceedings have become clear. Notice how little time the Democrats spent on these last week? The virus will recede, driven back by new therapies if not a vaccine. The regard most Americans have for themselves and others will end politicization of the pandemic. No matter who wins in November, schools will reopen and commerce (except for that which has permanently migrated online) will return to the streets. The astonishing pace of housing starts in July is a critical revealing detail. The “pent-up” demand the president predicted in the spring has arrived, just like the expected V-shaped rebound in the markets. Employment is returning. We have to plan for the next virus outbreak; others are certain to follow. If Trump closes the borders again, no one will call him xenophobic"...     source

At 4pm, Lexington, Kentucky, police urged the public to keep clear of the area surrounding Fayette Mall after law enforcement officials received reports of gunfire and a possible active shooter.

RNC ‘split-screen convention for the ages’ with 2 hurricanes making landfall: ‘Basically God endorsing Joe Biden’

Aug. 22 - Two tropical storms could hit the U.S. gulf course as hurricanes during next week’s Republican National Committee Convention.

Tropical Storm Marco is currently predicted to hit Louisiana on Monday evening, during the first day of the RNC Convention.
Tropical Storm Laura is also headed towards Louisiana, with an expected landfall on Wednesday afternoon, during the third day of the convention.     more

The House just passed a bill to provide $25 billion in emergency funding to USPS, but the White House has already threatened to veto it

Aug. 23 - The House of Representatives on Saturday passed legislation to provide $25 billion in emergency funding to the US Postal Service that will also roll back some of the controversial cost-cutting measures implemented by Postmaster General Louis DeJoy.

The legislation passed 257 to 150 along party lines, with the support of members of the Democratic majority. Twenty-six Republicans voted in favor of it.

"...Trump has sought to cast early doubt on the integrity of the election, and bringing up Pelosi, who is deeply unpopular with many Republicans, appeared aimed at motivating his base to vote.

Although the speaker of the House is third in line for the presidency, it is unclear how Pelosi would assume the office in the event of a disputed election. Congress ultimately holds the power to decide which state electors to accept and resolve disputes. If no candidate wins a majority, the House selects a winner, but must choose from the top three vote-getters.

In a preview of what Republicans will argue at their own convention next week, Trump hammered at the law-and-order theme he has embraced in response to protests and unrest in many cities, including Portland, Oregon.

He said police had been weakened in 'Democrat-run' cities and cited a spike in murders in Chicago, Minneapolis, New York and Philadelphia. He urged Americans to turn back 'radical left socialists and Marxists.'
He called protesters in Portland 'crazy'."

Another picture uncovered by DailyMail.com reveals the president standing beside Mike Furey, aka 'Foreman Mike' - the larger-than-life 'construction boss' who narrates numerous videos for We Build The Wall. It is unclear if he is a real builder or simply a social media frontman.

Wearing his trademark hard hat, dark shades and reflective jacket, Foreman Mike gives a thumbs up while Trump does the same, smiling broadly for the camera.

Joining them is 'Angel Mom' Mary Ann Mendoza, an advisory board member for We Build The Wall who has campaigned for tougher border controls after her police officer son, Sgt Brandon Mendoza, was killed in 2014 by an illegal immigrant driver...     More Details
