The Episcopal bishop of Washington DC has said she is “outraged” after officers used teargas to clear a crowd of peaceful protesters from near the White House to make way for Donald Trump.

Minutes after speaking in the Rose Garden about the importance of “law and order” to quell the unrest over the killing of George Floyd by Minneapolis police, Trump walked across the street to St John’s Episcopal church, where every American president since James Madison has worshipped.

But not before police used teargas and force to clear the streets for Trump’s photo opportunity.

New York governor and NYPD praise officers who knelt with peaceful protesters
June 1 - ..."On Sunday, several hundred people held a peaceful march in Queens, close to the 103rd police precinct.
In the video, the protesters are kneeling, and a pastor invited officers to come into the circle and kneel with them -- which was greeted with cheers from the crowd.
Abraham said she'd never seen police do that in all her years of activism, or even on television at other protests -- but warned that "what we’re really looking for is action."
"I’ll be even more impressed when we’re not stepped on and gunned down. That’s the moment I’m looking for."     watch video

May 31 - Tense protests over the death of George Floyd raged for a fifth consecutive night on Saturday in cities across the US, from Philadelphia to Los Angeles, with police cars set ablaze and reports of injuries mounting on all sides.
The demonstrations, which began in Minneapolis following Floyd’s death on Monday when a police officer pressed a knee onto his neck until he stopped breathing, have become a national phenomenon as protesters decry years of police brutality against African Americans.
The violent clashes between activists and law enforcement reached the White House and the doors of Trump Towers in New York and Chicago on Saturday night after Donald Trump inflamed the situation with tweets threatening “vicious” retribution...    more
May 31 - Authorities in Minneapolis deployed the National Guard on Saturday to deal with protests and riots in the city, determined to avoid the scenes of looting and destruction from the night before. Their tactics were aggressive, as this video below shows, with guardsmen marching through residential neighbourhoods ordering people to go inside their homes – and firing non-lethal rounds at them if they failed to comply.
