Black Sea Becoming Dangerous Confrontation Zone Because of NATO Drills, Russian Diplomat Says

​The Black Sea is turning into a zone of dangerous military confrontation, as NATO exercises in the region provoke new conflicts, Russian Foreign Ministry's Fourth European Department Director Yuri Pilipson said.

Aug. 5 - "Unfortunately, we have to admit that the Black Sea is turning from a region of peace and good-neighborliness into a zone of dangerous military confrontation. It is absolutely obvious that such kind of drills provoke conflicts instead of preventing them," Pilipson said, asked how the Sea Breeze-2021 exercise affects security in the Black Sea region.

Russia will continue to take measures to ensure national security with the help of diplomatic and other instruments, the official assured.

We have repeatedly warned that the escalation of military-political tensions directly at our borders carries a confrontational charge," Pilipson added.

Sea Breeze-2021 military exercise took place in the Black Sea from June 28-July 10. Ukraine, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Romania, Bulgaria, Greece, Turkey and Latvia were among the key participants. The drills involved 40 warships, motors boats and auxiliary vessels, 30 units of aviation equipment and over 100 units of armoured vehicles and vehicles.     source from

Mark Francis Brzezinski (born April 7, 1965) is an American lawyer who served as the United States Ambassador to Sweden from 2011 to 2015. In August 2021, he was nominated to be the United States Ambassador to Poland, pending Senate confirmation.

Early life and education

Brzezinski is the son of Emilie Benes Brzezinski and Polish-born former National Security Advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski, and the grandson of Polish diplomat Tadeusz Brzeziński. His mother is the grandniece of former Czechoslovak president Edvard Beneš. His sister is Mika Brzezinski, co-host of the morning talk show Morning Joe, and his brother is military expert Ian Brzezinski. He is also first cousin of author Matthew Brzezinski.

Brzezinski graduated from Dartmouth College with a Bachelor of Arts in government, earned a Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia Law School, and holds a Doctor of Philosophy in political science from Oxford University. White House Memo Takes on Securing Critical Infrastructure Control Systems

​Aug. 4 - ​Attacks targeting critical infrastructure have been on the rise in recent years. Back in 2019, for instance, 56% of utility professionals responsible for overseeing risk in their organizations’ operational technology (OT) assets told Siemens and the Ponemon Institute that they experience at least one shutdown or operational data loss event a year. That’s about the same proportion (54%) of survey respondents who said they expected to see an attack on critical infrastructure in the next 12 months, reported HSToday.

The Biden Administration RespondsThese critical infrastructure security events could explain why the Biden Administration has taken several steps in 2021 to help protect industrial control systems serving critical national infrastructure. Here’s an overview of three of those initiatives:

• The 100-day sprint for electrical infrastructure: Earlier in the year, the Biden Administration announced a 100-day sprint to identify weaknesses within the United States’ electrical infrastructure. It also announced a Request for Information (RFI) from the U.S. Department of Energy to help to address supply chain risks in the U.S. electric system. • The Executive Order on Improving the Nation’s Cybersecurity: In mid-May, the Administration published an Executive Order around strengthening the nation’s cybersecurity. The directive came with several measures for helping Federal Civilian Executive Branch (FCEB) agencies within the U.S. government to defend against supply chain attacks. It also included a section on removing barriers that would prevent information technology (IT) and OT service providers sharing threat intelligence information with FBI and similar entities.
• Revised security guidelines for pipeline owners: Following a high-profile ransomware attack involving a U.S. pipeline company, the Transportation Security Agency (TSA) issued a directive that discusses new security requirements for pipeline operators. Those obligations include the need for all pipeline companies to disclose all security incidents to the TSA and the Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) going forward.

The Biden Administration isn’t done for the year, either. In July, it released its “National Security Memorandum on Improving Cybersecurity for Critical Infrastructure Control Systems.” The purpose of this memo is to “defend the United States’ critical infrastructure by encouraging and facilitating deployment of technologies and systems that provide threat visibility, indications, detection, and warnings, and that facilitate response capabilities for cybersecurity in essential control system and operational technology networks. The goal of the Initiative is to greatly expand deployment of these technologies across priority critical infrastructure.”

Towards that end, the memo will work to create new avenues for collaboration between public and private sector entities. One such opportunity has already taken shape in the electricity subsector, the memo noted, with similar efforts to follow in the natural gas pipeline, water and wastewater, and chemical sectors later in 2021. ​Aug. 4 -  Florida environmental leaders on Tuesday celebrated a major milestone that's expected to reduce harmful water discharges into the St. Lucie Estuary.


Speaking at the Shark Valley Visitor Center at Everglades National Park, Gov. Ron DeSantis said the removal of the nearly six-mile Tamiami Trail roadbed has been completed six months ahead of schedule.

"Where the nearly six miles of roadbed once stood, now clean water is moving south," DeSantis said.


The governor said the removal of the roadbed -- the foundation of a railroad track -- will increase water flows into Everglades National Park and reduce harmful discharges to the east and west coasts of Florida.

"Removing barriers to move water south benefits the Everglades and restoration of its critical ecosystem, and helps to protect the St. Lucie and Caloosahatchee estuaries from harmful discharges," DeSantis said.

Those water releases have led to, in part, the growth of toxic algae in Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast, according to environmentalists.

"Moving water south is so important. That reduces the amount of water going east and west," conservationist "Alligator" Ron Bergeron said. "This project affects the global Everglades."     source from
