The Foreign and Expatriates Ministry has condemned the US decision to dispatch more military forces towards Russian borders, according to SANA.
Syria Condemns Washington and NATO Dispatching Troops Towards Russian Border

Apr. 19 - Syria condemned the US and NATO step of dispatching more military forces towards Russian borders posing a threat to international peace and security.
An official source at the Foreign and Expatriates Ministry told SANA on Sunday that the US step of escalation comes as a reflection of the US’s blatant intervention in the affairs of other countries, in addition to imposing coercive measures on them in an attempt to subjugate these countries to US policies and continue its hegemony on the world.

The source added that the Syrian Arab Republic rejects the US’s international relations methods, and expresses its full solidarity with friendly Russia and all measures taken to preserve its national security and protect peace and stability in the world in light of the threats that surround it as a result of the US reckless policies.

Moscow sees U.S. influence behind Czech expulsion of Russian diplomats

April 19 - Russia says U.S. influence is evident in the Czech Republic's decision to expel 18 Russian diplomats from Prague.
Czech authorities took the step to please the United States following recent American sanctions on Russia, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Sunday in a statement.

Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis said Saturday that the country was expelling 18 staffers from the Russian embassy in Prague for the alleged involvement of the Russian special services in two ammunition depot explosions in 2014.

The Russian Foreign Ministry criticized Prague for using "unfounded and far-fetched pretexts" in order to continue its anti-
Russian tirade in recent years.

"We express our strong protest to the Czech authorities. We will take retaliatory measures that will make the masterminds of this provocation realize their full responsibility for destroying the foundations of normal development of bilateral relations," the statement read.

The United States on Thursday imposed sanctions against Russia and expelled 10 diplomats citing Moscow's alleged election interference and cyber activities.

The Russian Foreign Ministry on Friday announced a series of retaliatory measures, including entry bans and the expulsion of diplomats, in response to recent "hostile actions" by the United States.
Russia will ask 10 U.S. diplomats to leave the country, the ministry said.     source from

US warns of 'consequences' if Putin critic Navalny dies as doctors raise health concerns

US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan warned Sunday that Russia will face "consequences" if hunger-striking Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny dies.

Apr. 19 - US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan warned Sunday that Russia will face "consequences" if hunger-striking Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny dies.

Jailed opposition leader Navalny
, President Vladimir Putin's most prominent opponent, was arrested in January upon returning to Russia after recovering from a near-fatal poisoning attack he says was orchestrated by Moscow.

"In terms of the specific measures we would undertake, we are looking at a variety of different costs that we would impose, and I'm not going to telegraph that publicly at this point," Sullivan told CNN.

"But we have communicated that there will be consequences if Mr. Navalny dies." The 44-year-old Russian began a hunger strike on March 31 to demand proper medical treatment for back pain and numbness in his legs and hands.

On Saturday, Navalny's doctors said his health had rapidly deteriorated and demanded prison officials grant them immediate access.

"Our patient can die any minute," cardiologist Yaroslav Ashikhmin said, pointing to Navalny's high potassium levels and saying he should be moved to intensive care.

Both France and Germany on Sunday joined a growing international chorus of protest at Navalny's treatment.
Sullivan said the White House had told the Kremlin that Moscow would be "held accountable by the international community" for what happens to Navalny while in Russian custody.

US President Joe Biden said Saturday that Navalny's situation was "totally unfair," but he is facing criticism for not bringing up the dissident's treatment in a phone call to Putin last week or being more forthright in his public comments.

Sullivan said the White House had already made its position clear to Russia directly and that "the best way to deal with this issue is privately, and through diplomatic channels direct to the uppermost levels of the Russian government."     source from

Symbolic Retaliation: Why the US Likely Would Attack a Kremlin Client State in Response to a Russian-Ukrainian War

Apr. 19 - Growing tensions between Russia and Ukraine are producing an surge of bluster from the Biden administration, as well as from the hawkish denizens of Washington’s think tanks. The administration keeps assuring Ukraine’s government that the United States and NATO have Kiev’s back in its confrontation with Russian-supported separatists in the eastern Donbas region as well as with Russia itself. An April 2 White House press release confirmed that in a telephone call to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Biden "affirmed the United States’ unwavering support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in the face of Russia’s ongoing aggression in the Donbas and Crimea." Other high-level administration officials, including Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and Secretary of State Antony Blinken have done the same...

...A regime-change war against Venezuela is precisely the kind of tit-for-tat response chastened, but still angry and aggressive, US foreign policy mandarins might choose to salvage some prestige if Russia calls Washington’s bluff about defending Ukraine. There is, of course, a much easier way for America’s armchair hawks and laptop bombardiers to avoid the danger of such humiliation. But that approach would require them to end their posturing and saber-rattling toward Moscow, and they don’t seem inclined to embrace such basic prudence.    quoted from

In Punishing Russia for SolarWinds, Biden Upends U.S. Convention on Cyber Espionage

Administration said Moscow breached bounds of acceptable online spying with hack’s size and attack on U.S. private sector

Apr. 17, WASHINGTON—President Biden’s decision this week to punish Russia for the SolarWinds hack broke with years of U.S. foreign policy that has tolerated cyber espionage as an acceptable form of 21st century spycraft, analysts and former officials said.

In announcing a suite of punitive measures against Moscow, including financial sanctions and diplomatic expulsions, the White House made clear its actions were in response to “the full scope of Russia’s harmful foreign activities.”

The administration specifically highlighted what it said was Russia’s yearslong meddling in U.S. elections. It also said U.S. intelligence had “high confidence” that Russia’s foreign intelligence service, the SVR, was behind last year’s SolarWinds hack, which compromised at least nine federal agencies and about 100 private-sector organizations.

The administration said both campaigns were unacceptable and demanding of a forceful response.     quoted from

Biden denounces Russia for “interfering” in US elections, remains silent on Trump coup revelations

Apr. 17 - On Thursday, US President Joe Biden announced a “national emergency” and declared that Russia had “interfered in the [2020 US] election,” expelling ten Russian diplomats and announcing a new round of economic sanctions.

“If Russia continues to interfere with our democracy, I’m prepared to take further actions to respond,” Biden said. He added that US “elections are sacred” and “an expression of the will of the American people. And we cannot allow a foreign power to interfere in our democratic process with impunity.”

Biden’s statement came in response to a 15-page report published March 10 by the US National Intelligence Council that concluded that Russia “interfered” in the election by spreading “unsubstantiated or misleading claims about President Biden.”

We will not address the substance of the report of Russian “interference,” which as with all intelligence reports of this character is based on nothing. By the intelligence agencies’ own admission, in any case, Russia did not attempt to change the outcome of a single vote. Nor is it necessary to dwell again on the fact that the United States, now with Biden at its head, is the principal source of “interference,” “meddling” and much more in the “democratic process” of virtually every country on the planet.

The more essential point is the following: There was a real attempt not only to “interfere” with but to overthrow the “democratic process” in the United States, but it did not come from Vladimir Putin, but from Donald Trump. It was not the Kremlin, but a section of the American ruling class...     more

President Joe Biden hosted Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga on Friday for his first in-person bilateral meeting since becoming president, with the two leaders outlining their strategic vision for the Indo-Pacific in the face of growing challenges from China and North Korea
Biden, Japan's PM Focus on China, North Korea in First Bilateral Meeting

Apr. 17 - “Japan and the United States are two strong democracies in the region, and we’re committed to advancing and defending our shared values, including human rights and the rule of law,” Biden said in prepared remarks at a joint press conference in the White House Rose Garden, The Hill reported.

“We’re going to work together to prove that democracies can still compete and win in the 21st century, we can deliver for our people in the face of a rapidly changing world,” he added.
Both leaders referenced the need to confront challenges in the East China Sea and the South China Sea.

Suga emphasized the importance of the trilateral relationship between the US, Japan and South Korea to manage North Korea, which has engaged in new missile launches in recent weeks and has not responded to outreach from the Biden administration.
Biden referenced his commitment to the “Quad”, which consists of the leaders of the US, Japan, India and Australia, to address vaccine distribution and other regional issues.

The two leaders also discussed the Summer Olympics, which are scheduled for later this year in Tokyo. Biden acknowledged the importance of the games to Japan, but neither leader weighed in on whether the Olympics should go forward amid the COVID pandemic.     more

Video Shows Russian Fighter Escort U.S. Military Plane Over the Pacific

Apr. 16 - ARussian fighter plane escorted a U.S military aircraft over Russia's far eastern border this week, amid growing tensions between Moscow and Washington, D.C. and international concern over a military build-up at the border with Ukraine.

Footage released by the Kremlin's Defense Ministry on Friday shows its MiG-31 fighter accompanying the U.S. Air Force RC-135 strategic reconnaissance aircraft along the south-eastern coast of Kamchatka, reported the news agency Tass.

The ministry said in a statement that its fighter took off from an airfield in the Kamchatka territory "to identify and accompany" the U.S. aircraft.

"The crew of the fighter identified the air target as a strategic reconnaissance aircraft RC-135 of the U.S. Air Force," it said in a statement, adding that the American plane did not cross into Russian territory.

"The flight of the Russian fighter was carried out in strict accordance with international rules for the use of airspace," the ministry added.

In a similar incident last week, a Russian MiG-31 escorted an RC-135 reconnaissance plane that Moscow said had approached its borders in the same region, news agencies reported.

Since last year, NATO aircraft have upped their reconnaissance activities near Russia, prompting a warning by Moscow that such flights pose the risk of an accidental escalation.     more

China Backs Away as Philippines and U.S. Send Impressive Fleet to West Philippine Sea
China grudgingly respects those with strategic dignity and courage.

Apr. 16 - In a surprising move, the Philippines sent its strongest response yet against China’s expansion into the West Philippine Sea. Not since 2012 has the Philippines moved its naval forces to the West Philippine Sea to challenge China’s militarization of the area. The move is a highly coordinated response with the United States.

Biden to welcome Japan's Suga as first guest and key ally in China strategy

Apr. 16, WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Joe Biden welcomes Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga on Friday as the first foreign leader to visit his White House, underscoring Tokyo’s central role in the U.S. strategy to counter the challenge of China’s growing assertiveness.

The one-day summit is expected to yield steps diversifying supply chains seen as over-reliant on China and a $2 billion commitment from Japan to work with the United States on alternatives to the 5G network of Chinese firm Huawei, a senior U.S. official said.

Biden and Suga are also expected to discuss human rights issues related to China, including the situation in Hong Kong and Xinjiang, the official said.

The summit is expected to yield a formal statement on Taiwan, a Chinese-claimed, self-ruled island under increasing military pressure from Beijing, said the official, who did not want to be identified.

It would be the first joint statement on Taiwan by U.S. and Japanese leaders since 1969, but appears likely to fall short of what Washington has been hoping from Suga, who inherited a China policy that sought to balance security concerns with economic ties when he took over as premier last September.

In a statement after a March meeting of U.S.-Japan officials, the two sides “underscored the importance of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait” and shared “serious concerns” about human rights in Hong Kong and Xinjiang.     more

Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga, center, departs for the United States from Tokyo's Haneda Airport on April 15.
Taiwan to be included in joint statement when Suga, Biden meet

Apr. 16 - Japan and the United States will present a united stance on Chinese activity around Taiwan when Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga meets with U.S. President Joe Biden in their first summit on April 16.

A high-ranking U.S. administration official said April 15 that the joint statement to be issued after the meeting in Washington, D.C., would likely include some reference to the Taiwan Strait, given the recent naval activity by China in those waters.

The official said including the issue in the joint statement would send a “clear signal” to Beijing from the two allies.

China will be at the center of the talks, with key topics expected to include national security issues and bilateral cooperation on vital supply chains to reduce dependence on China.

Another major issue expected to come up is reducing dependence on Huawei products in developing 5G mobile communication technology.

The two leaders are expected to announce that Japan will cooperate with the United States on a plan worth some $2 billion (217.59 billion yen) to develop 5G and future communications technology.

“I want to further strengthen the Japan-U.S. alliance by developing a relationship of trust with President Biden,” Suga told reporters before departing from Tokyo on the evening of April 15. “I also want to demonstrate to the world the leadership role that the two nations are prepared to take in realizing a free and open Indo-Pacific region.”

Suga will be the first foreign leader Biden will meet face to face. Because the Biden administration has clearly signaled it will take a more multilateral approach toward U.S. allies, the meeting with Suga will also likely serve as a barometer for how relationships with its other allies will develop.     more

DR David Fowler is a forensic pathologist who is testifying at the trial of Derek Chauvin over the death of George Floyd.
'EXPERT WITNESS' Who is Dr David Fowler?

He was called on by the defense as an expert witness and has a history of involvement with high-profile police use-of-force cases.

Apr. 15 - David Fowler, M.D. is a board-certified anatomic and forensic pathologist who formerly practiced as Chief Medical Examiner for the State of Maryland.

He graduated from the University of Cape Town in 1983 and did a year of general medical and surgical internship, followed by a year of pediatric pathology at the Red Cross Children's Hospital in Cape Town.

Dr. Fowler is now an Associate Professor at the University of Maryland in the departments of pediatrics and pathology.

He is active on multiple committees in the National Association of Medical Examiners and is a past president of that organization.

Why is he involved in George Floyd trial?
Derek Chauvin's defense team has called on Dr. Fowler to testify on day 13 of the trial over the death of George Floyd.
Chauvin's counsel has shifted its focus to its presentation of medical evidence in defense of the former Minneapolis police officer.

Dr. Fowler is expected to argue that Floyd may have died due to a lethal drug overdose, heart failure, or a combination of both.

What was Dr. Fowler's involvement in the Anton Black trial?

As a forensic pathologist, Dr. Fowler has a history of involvement in police-related use-of-force cases.

While he was chief medical examiner of Maryland, Dr. Fowler ruled that the death of Anton Black, a black teenager who was killed after a scuffle with police in 2018, was an accident.

There were no charges in the case.

Anton Black’s family told WTOP ahead of Fowler’s testimony the two cases are eerily similar.

“It’s surreal that you have two men on the opposite sides of the country that experienced almost the same treatment by two different police officers,” said LaToya Holley, Black’s sister.

“The medical examiner, in my opinion, was egregious in the way he finalized Anton’s autopsy results. Now, he’s being called to be an expert witness for another police officer.”

Black's family filed a lawsuit against Fowler accusing him of concealing law enforcement’s role in Black’s death.

Fowler ruled that his death was the result of a heart condition and that mental illness was a contributing factor.
Dr. David Fowler, Former Maryland Chief Medical Examiner, Called To Stand For Defense In Derek Chauvin Murder Trial

Apr. 15 - MINNEAPOLIS (WJZ) — Maryland’s former chief medical examiner was called to the stand for the defense in the Derek Chauvin murder trial on Wednesday.

Dr. David Fowler testified Wednesday in Minneapolis on behalf of the defense.

He told the jury that George Floyd died from sudden cardiac arrhythmia during his arrest.

He also testified that he believes the amount of force applied by Chauvin’s knee on Floyd’s neck was not the cause of his death.

“In terms of the placement of officer Chauvin’s knee to Mr. Floyd, is it your opinion that Mr. Chauvin’s knee in any way impacted the structures of Mr. Floyd’s neck?” Defense Attorney Eric Nelson asked.

“No. It did not,” Dr. Fowler responded. “None of the vital structures were in the area where the knee appeared to be in the videos.”

Fowler was Maryland’s chief medical examiner up until 2019 and he’s now named in a lawsuit brought by the family of Anton Black, a 19-year-old Black teenager who died after being chased and restrained by police officers on the Eastern Shore in 2018.

This lawsuit claims, though, that Dr. Fowler was complicit in creating a false narrative.
The ACLU of Maryland said, in part:

“The medical examiner’s office ruled that Anton Black’s death was not a homicide even though video showed police chase him, tase him, and pin him face down to the ground after he was handcuffed and at which point he stopped breathing.”

Ken Ravenell is one of the attorney’s representing Black’s family.

“We can’t wait to get our turn to examine him, because what he’s doing in the George Floyd case is abysmal and what he’s done in this case is absolutely abysmal,” Ravenell said.

In a statement to WJZ, Black’s family said:

“Initially our family was shocked to learn that Dr. Fowler was testifying in Chauvin’s defense, but there is an eerie and terrifying similarity between the police killings of Anton and George Floyd.”

The Maryland attorney general is representing the medical examiner’s office and Dr. Fowler. WJZ reached out to them, they said they do not comment on pending litigation.    source from

'Time to end the forever war': Biden to start US Afghanistan pullout on 1 May

Biden said the final withdrawal would start on May 1 and end by 11 September

Apr. 15 - ...In Afghanistan's capital of Kabul, officials said they would carry on with peace talks and their forces defending the country.

"Now that there is an announcement on foreign troops withdrawal within several months, we need to find a way to coexist," said Abdullah Abdullah, a top peace official and former presidential candidate. "We believe that there is no winner in Afghan conflicts and we hope the Taliban realize that too."

U.S. officials can claim to have decimated al Qaeda's core leadership in the region years ago, including tracking down and killing the group's leader bin Laden in neighboring Pakistan in 2011. But ties between the Taliban and al Qaeda elements persist and peace and security remain elusive.

Successive U.S. presidents sought to extricate themselves from Afghanistan, but those hopes were confounded by concerns about Afghan security forces, endemic corruption in Afghanistan and the resiliency of a Taliban insurgency that enjoyed safe haven across the border in Pakistan.

There is concern over the impact a withdrawal would have on human rights in Afghanistan given the gains, particularly for women and girls, during the past two decades.

"I am worried about my future," said Wida Saghar, a writer and women's rights activist in Kabul. "An unknown future awaits us, when foreign forces leave and the civil war intensifies ... then who will think about women's rights? Who will care about us?"    source from

Taiwan ‘very willing’ to work with US to counter China’s ‘adventurous maneuvers and provocations’

Apr. 15 - Taiwan is “very willing” to work with the US and other “like-minded countries” to deter China, the island’s president has said, as she met an unofficial delegation from Washington sent as a “personal signal” by Joe Biden.Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen met a delegation of former US officials, including former Senator Chris Dodd and former Deputy Secretaries of State Richard Armitage and James Steinberg, on Thursday. The president of the island, which Beijing considers an integral part of the country, condemned China’s military activities off its coast, expressing eagerness to work with Washington to deter Beijing.

"We are very willing to work with like-minded countries, including the United States, to jointly safeguard the peace and stability of the Indo-Pacific and deter adventurous maneuvers and provocations."

Tsai also vowed to continue working with Washington to counter “cognitive warfare” and misinformation, allegedly spread by Beijing, but did not elaborate on the matter. Former Senator Dodd said the US’ partnership with Taiwan is “stronger than ever,” promising the Biden administration would be a “reliable, trusted friend.”      continue to read
