US election: Republican allies turn on Donald Trump after fraud claims

Nov. 5 - A number of Republican leaders have condemned US President Donald Trump's claims of "major fraud" in the election, and have rebuked his efforts to halt "all voting" counts while declaring himself the election victor.

Trump, who spoke to supporters at the White House late on election night, when millions of votes were still uncounted, said: "As far as I'm concerned, we already have won it."

"This is a fraud on the American public. This is an embarrassment to our country. We were getting ready to win this election. Frankly, we did win this election. We did win this election," he said.

But several GOP leaders have since publicly shot down the comments.

Joe Biden Holds Drive-In Rally in Philadelphia
2020 Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden holds a drive-in campaign rally in Philadelphia, two days before Election Day.
Biden implores Philly voters to ‘put an end to this presidency’ as Trump signals plans to discredit votes

Nov. 1 - Joe Biden on Sunday urged Philadelphians to surge to the polls and fight “voter suppression," even as President Donald Trump signaled plans to attack a legitimate vote count expected to extend past Election Day.

“Every day is a new reminder of how high the stakes are, how far the other side will go to try to suppress the turnout, especially here in Philadelphia,” Biden said before about 50 cars filled with supporters at Sharon Baptist Church in the city’s Wynnefield Heights section. “There’s too much on the line to sit it out.”

Later, at FDR Park in South Philadelphia, Biden said, “Every generation has to fight to keep the democracy. I never believed we’d have to fight this hard though.”     continue to read

Biden begins two-day campaign sprint in battleground Pennsylvania

Nov. 11 - Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden on Sunday kicked off a two-day blitz in Pennsylvania, a critical battleground state that both candidates are honing in on in the closing days of the campaign.

Biden delivered a fiery address at a drive-in rally on Sunday evening in Philadelphia, rebuking President Trump and urging voters to turn out for him in large numbers.
“In two days we can put an end to a presidency that has fanned the flames of hate all across this nation,” Biden said, speaking at Franklin Delano Roosevelt Park.

“The truth is, to beat the virus we first gotta beat Donald Trump. He’s the virus,” he said.
Biden also hit Trump over his relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin, calling the president “Putin’s puppy.”

The former vice president kicked off the blitz earlier in the day with a “Souls to the Polls” event with members of Philadelphia’s faith community at Sharon Baptist Church.

“I live in Delaware but I’m a Pennsylvania boy, born in Scranton,” Biden said, speaking in the church parking lot, wearing a Philadelphia Eagles jacket.     continue to read

Former US president Barack Obama gestures as he speaks at a democratic US presidential nominee and former Vice President Joe Biden's campaign drive-in, mobilization event in Flint, Michigan, US on October 31, 2020.
Barack Obama says Donald Trump failed to take pandemic, presidency seriously

Obama said he initially hoped “for the country’s sake” that Trump “might take the job seriously. He never has.”

Oct. 31 - Calling Joe Biden his “brother,” Barack Obama has accused Donald Trump of failing to take the coronavirus pandemic and the presidency seriously as Democrats leaned on America’s first Black president to energise Black voters in battleground Michigan on the final weekend of the 2020 campaign. Obama, the 44th president, and Biden, his vice president who wants to be the 46th, on Saturday held drive-in rallies in Flint and Detroit, predominantly Black cities where strong turnout will be essential to swing the longtime Democratic state to Biden’s column after Trump won it in 2016.     continue to read

A tired-looking Donald Trump descended into gibberish during a 'low-energy' campaign speech days away from the US election.

Donald Trump descends into gibberish about 'work and horror' during speech

A tired-looking President claimed Joe Biden had profited from the "misery of unleashed work and horror." It remains unclear what he was talking about

Oct. 31 - The President gave the first of four rallies in Pennsylvania in Bucks County this afternoon.

He started to attack his rival, election frontrunner Joe Biden - accusing him, without providing any evidence, of backing  trade policies that made "his donors" and "his family" rich.

But he then veered off into just...we're not sure what.

He said: "And as we all know, he profited from the misery of unleashed...work and horror given to Pennsylvania workers.
"He made a lot of money and his family made a lot of money and nobody knew about it until just recently."

It's entirely unclear what he was referring to.

The President has repeatedly attacked Biden, using misleadingly edited footage to appear as if the former Vice President had misspoken or made gaffes.      continue to read
